Integrating Employment as Skills:
Skills@Work is an exciting initiative that has been launched by the British Council to promote the connection between vocational education, training and employability. Vocational education and training is important to the support of economic growth in a globally competitive market. As the labour market needs new skills to compete and innovate, matching skills to market needs is the challenge facing vocational education. The British Council’s Skills@Work , a project running in 18 countries across Europe, was developed to address some of the long-term systemic challenges in vocational education which affect the industry sector. Our goals are to engage employers and industry leaders in vocational education agenda setting, and inspire young people to develop and use their skills in enterprising and innovative ways.
Our program of activities includes curriculum development & quality assurance, college partnerships, an international competition for young entrepreneurs and opportunities for dialogue between policy- makers, employers and leaders of industry.
College Partnerships
The College Partnership project was designed to support joint programs between the vocational education sector in Europe, the UK and Israel. The aim of the project is to encourage participating countries to develop new industry-led occupational standards and curricula.
At the heart of the project is the sharing of good practice and experience through the development of long-term relationships between UK colleges and vocational schools in Europe. Partnerships with the UK will be used to develop and test new curricula, methods and concepts that address national political, legislative and economic variables in the countries taking part in this project.
